ON FORGIVENESS.

Today is the first day of Ramadan 1439 Hijrah. Alhamdulillah (praised be to God) who allows us to reach this holy month, that is full of barokah (blessings) and forgiveness.

It is that time again for Muslims to observe fasting for a month, from dawn to dusk. To observe carefully each and every action and deeds while fasting is not an easy thing, yet not impossible. Every one of us is striving, doing our best to be a better human being. Everyday.

Fret not, you are not alone.

I would like to pick a topic on forgiveness: to forgive and to move on.

I am reading a book by Gary Chapman on ‘Love as a way of life’. In his book he stated that among the seven main attitude of authentic love is ‘forgiveness’. On forgiving other human who has made wrongdoings to us, it is rather not an easy task, worst if without anticipation from the other human.

Forgiving is a choice.

You may think you have forgiven, yet at times hurt and anger may surface. The scar remains, unless you manage to let it go. Later it will be nothing but just a mark.

Remember this, (quoted) {Anger should be a visitor, not a resident}. Do not let your anger and negativity eats you from within, because it will leave you with nothing but misery within yourself, within your world.

If you cannot stand the anger or negativity, it is then time to walk away. To free yourself, into a new environment, a positive one that will shape you a better person.

Time, istighfar (asking for forgiveness from God) and dua’ (prayer) will heal them all.

Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the best example of all being. He was the most forgiving person that existed. His level of patience and love towards others made him the greatest man on earth.

We still have a long way to go and follow his examples.

Let us start with forgiving the smallest mistakes. And strive towards forgiving every mistake we encounter. Purification of the heart needs hard work and faith.

May Allah forgives all our sins and bring us closer to Him.

Ramadan Kareem, everyone!
